Being a big fan of Sports car racing I am a little concerned that the only Canadian race event may be in some sort of trouble. I this year the event was a shadow of the previous years event and although the racing was still spectacular,(this is the most e citing racing to watch from trackside) the fact that there were only two cars in the GT1 category (both Panoz) was a bit of a concern. It's not easy to find info. on Sportscars - thanks for a great site. I shared Andy Evans (love him or hate him he had some interesting ideas !!) vision of a true World Sportscar Championship. Imagine the great names from Sportscar racing history on both s des of the Atlantic competing for Le Mans, Suzuka 1000km, Daytona, Sebring ... I sincerly hope US sports car racing sorts itself out and that the rival bodies can come to some kind of agreement. I also hope that the FIA doesn't drop the ball again and mes up the GT Championships which hold so much promise. I believe Sportscar racing is in better shape than it has been for many years, particuarly with the likes of Road Atlanta running a "Petite Le Mans" in association with the ACO. As long as the powers th t be on both sides of the Atlantic keep an eye on the costs ( no Toyota semi Group C cars please ) and keep the rules flexible ( eg allowing both turbo and non turbo cars to compete together )Sportscar racing has a bright future.

In about 1965 at Santa Pod we were blessed by a visit from The Michigan Madman, and the pic says why: an injected Corvette V-8 engine in a motorbike frame. See also a nice US sprint cornering h rd enough to tuck the right-rear under, and without any of those garbage WINGS on it. So, I love anything that's loud and goes too fast. How do you get the time/ennergy to make these pages! I watched the first Lola-Ford GT at Silverstone, the year before it was christened GT40. As a 9-year-old I was badly frightened in the Silverstone bridge-over when Moss went underneath in his Mercedes Lola T70's were nice. Saw someone stuff a Galaxie 500 into the railways sleepers at Woodcote. Nowadays if I get to Britain I go to stock-car racing: 454 Chevs with armour and drivers with guts. Try it! My cure for all racing ills: spec road tires nd steel unvented discs --- do what you like with the rest, those two obstacles will make you drive better and produce better spectacle. Best races I ever saw were : 1) the Brands 1000Km in 1982 when the works 956 narrowly beat Fabi & Patrese's Lancia LC1 on aggregate. Stuck was awesome in the wet in a BMW M1 engined Sauber and really deserved to win, whilst the Ford C100 project effectively died that day as the two c rs were crashed into each other in the wet whilst leading!. 2) The Spa 1000Kms in 1986 when only fuel pump problems prevented Warwick's Jag from beating Boutsen's 956. A great race, which really came alive for us when we realised, about an hour from the end of the race, that the lead cars were actually on the same lap!
